This is the national gold standard for beginners who never fired a gun or for those who want to increase their formal training on every aspect of pistol shooting including pistol function, ammunition, gun and range safety, and marksmanship fundamentals regardless of NRA-affiliation.
This course is intended as starting points from which to build lifelong skills. The course is conducted in a traditional classroom and range setting. All participants receive a copy of the NRA’s published Basics of Pistol Shooting, take a Basics of Pistol Shooting Student Examination on the material covered in the course, complete a NRA Range Qualification, and receive a course completion certificate bearing the signature of the NRA Secretary and your NRA Certified Instructor. The course fee includes the use of NSP provided .22 Cal. pistols and ammunition. In this course you will learn, train, and finish the course with a solid foundation on how to safety, ethically, and responsibly own and handle pistols. It is important to note that this course adheres to a recognized nationally standardized curriculum. NRA Certificates of training are recognized in all 50 states and internationally.
Optional: California Firearms Safety Certificate - Upon completion of the Basics course, participants can take the CA DOJ’s Firearms Safety Certificate (FSC) for $25.00. This FSC is required to purchase or transfer a firearm at a CA firearms dealer. The decision to pay and take the DOJ FSC test can be made while in the course.
